Notes
Sygaea provides two ways to annotate your translations: editorial notes for scholarly apparatus (footnotes, endnotes) and comments for working discussion between team members. Both are attached to specific segments, keeping annotations in context.
How to use notes
Section titled “How to use notes”Adding an editorial note
Section titled “Adding an editorial note”Editorial notes become part of the translated document’s scholarly apparatus. They are included when you export the translation.
- Click on a segment to make it active.
- Place your cursor at the position in the target text where you want the note marker to appear.
- In the Notes tab of the right-hand column, click the insert button.
- Type the content of your editorial note in the form that appears.
- Submit the note.
The note is saved and a numbered marker (e.g. [EN:1]) appears in the target text at the cursor position. The marker is visible in the editor but does not affect the source text.

Viewing editorial notes
Section titled “Viewing editorial notes”Editorial notes for the active segment appear in the Notes tab on the right-hand side of the editor. Each note shows:
- The note number (matching the marker in the target text)
- The note content
- The author who created it
- The date it was added
You can also toggle between viewing notes for the active segment and viewing all notes across the document.

Editing and deleting notes
Section titled “Editing and deleting notes”- To edit a note, click the edit button next to it in the Notes tab, modify the content, and save.
- To delete a note, click the delete button. The note marker is removed from the target text.
Only the note’s author or a project lead can edit or delete a note.
Using comments for working discussion
Section titled “Using comments for working discussion”Comments are separate from editorial notes. They are for internal discussion between team members and are not included in exports.
- Click on a segment to make it active.
- In the right-hand column, use the comment input at the top to write a comment.
- You can attach the comment to either the source or target side of the segment.
- You can also select specific text before commenting to create an anchored comment.
- Submit the comment.
Comments support threaded replies, so team members can respond to each other in context.
